Call for Governing body for Kung Fu
With all the publicity in the media back in the late 60’s and early 70’s relating to the deadly Martial Art that was being taught to public, the Government called for a Governing Body to police this true Martial Art.
Founder members of the Kung Fu Council only wanted true Chinese Martial Arts to become members, but with people cannibalising different styles and calling it Kung Fu, this was soon to change, allowing anyone to open up clubs and calling it Kung Fu.
With this the Tai Gik Koon Association was formed. The association only allowed true Chinese Martial Arts to join.
The late Bob Johnson practiced Kung Fu for more
than 40 years. He was spurred in
to taking up Kung Fu after a street fight, while he was in the Military Police
in Hong Kong then continued training in India then England.
He was originally taught by two Grand Masters in Bombay.
Kung Fu was taught in the Chinese community only, rarely taught to non Chinese,
Bob introduced Kung Fu to England back in 1962 from Hong Kong. He
travelled extensively around the world demonstrating and taking part in
contests, but it was in New Zealand in 1964 that he received a ban and a
fine for killing a bull with his bare hands.
Bob received his masters certificate in 1953, in Britain he became the official instructor of Kung-Fu and self defence to the Leicester City Police Force.
